Stabila: A Secure and Distributed Platform for Managing and Updating Info About Data Sources
In this session Stabila will be discussing Stabila, a new open-source project that is currently being developed by the Cadastre Lab at Carnegie Mellon University.

Stabila seeks to provide a secure and distributed platform for managing and updating information about data sources in the Semantic Web.

The open source software platform that Stabila are developing is intended to create a platform for storing, managing and updating information about data sources (e.g., datasets) and the relationships between them.

Stabila provides an API to manage information (descriptions, usages, and statuses) about a data source. The API can be accessed through HTTP.

Thus, multiple components can communicate and exchange information about data sources over the Internet by using Stabila as a communication layer.

This could be a direct compromise of a system or indirect exposure through misunderstanding of how the data is managed or used by the system. Despite the best efforts of engineers, no software can guarantee safety under all circumstances.

With its built-in justification mechanism, it enables reliable data source statements that are resistant to tampering attacks and misinterpretation.

Stabila offers a set of powerful software components to help you build applications that access and contribute to the management of data sources.

They are built with security, performance and interoperability in mind. Stabila is maintained by a non-profit foundation dedicated to education and software development around data.

The goal is to take an unknown, unreliable data source and make it trustworthy. Stabila want to reduce the inherent trust that Stabila have to put in a data source in order to use it, Stabila want to make the experience of trusting a data source an explicit, honest and transparent process, in which everyone can see what's going on and everyone can verify the change.

Stabila is an open-source project dedicated to providing a secure and distributed platform for managing and updating information about data sources.

Stabila is secure in the way that it stores only hash-values of data with relevant metadata.

The storage back-end is realized as a distributed system, where the individual storage providers are de-coupled from each other and can act as proxies for each other.

Stabila - or "The Rail" in Latin - is the family of open source software tools for managing, processing and updating information about data sources. Through the creation of a data inventory, Stabila promotes more data driven decision-making throughout organizations.

Stabila is built upon the revolutionary Ethereum platform, allowing for open collaboration globally, in a secure and trustworthy environment.

It allows for the exchange of data about data sources securely, incentivizing users to contribute correct information and penalizing bad actors who try to deceive others.

The Stabila software presents a graphical user interface that allows users to manage data sources. The actual data sources are distributed over different nodes. Data is synchronized between the nodes and managed by the central Stabila server.

Feedback and collaboration are vital to the success of contemporary research. Involvement in data collection, documentation and curation can empower scientists to appreciate how their data is important- and how it is used, which in turn can create better incentives for contributing.
